How to Create a Personal Collection of Resources for You and your Students

  1. After becoming a MERLOT member, click on the link on the MERLOT homepage entitled “Hello, username”.
  2. Click on the tab labeled Personal Collections.
  3. Click the button labeled Create a New Personal Collection.
  4. Enter a name for the Personal Collection and a brief description of the collection.
  5. Click on the button labeled Save and Add Materials.
  6. Once the collection is created, you may then add resources to it by browsing the MERLOT collection, finding appropriate resources, and clicking on the links for Add to a Personal Collection or you may use the MERLOT search engine to locate specific resources and then add them to the collection.
  7. Continue with this process and create collections for all desired categories of materials.  For example, you might create collections for Thermodynamics, Statics, Circuits, Units Processes, etc.
  8. You may then edit these collections and annotate selected resources as desired.  Some examples for annotations are:
    1. describe how you use a resource in your teaching (classroom demo, lab assignment, homework, etc.)
    2. describe when and where in the curriculum that you use this resource
    3. describe how this resource is pedagogically effective
    4. describe how your students have responded to the use of the resource
